Charlotte St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Charlotte Goes Green Festival have been postponed until further notice. While we love walking in the parade and getting together with CGPR friends and alumni we support the parade & festival organizers with their postponing of the festival until everyone can gather safely.

Time to meet another contestant in the 2024 calendar contest!

Y`all remember that video we posted a year and some change back of Walther, a young male Pyr with a gunshot wound, enjoying his freedom ride and chilling in the back of the SUV with a smile on his face and the windows down like he was having the best day of his life? Considering what we know of his life before rescue, that may have been the best day up to that point.

Well, that`s Duncan!

This sweet boy was born with a serious birth defect in one of his rear legs that crippled him and was subsequently shot in the rear end. He was picked up as a stray in South Carolina and ended up at a shelter, where he was designated as rescue-only. Many shelters lack the resources and staff to provide veterinary care to dogs like Duncan, and so it was us or death. The staff there advocated for him -- he was so happy despite all that he had been through! This fundraiser helps us replenish our surgery fund each year. We can say "yes" to dogs like Duncan because folks enter, vote, and order calendars.

When we got Duncan to our vet, we learned that the limp and the bullet were, in fact, two separate issues requiring care. Our friends at @monroeroadanimalhospital, @commonwealthanimal , and @dogwoodvetsurgery all helped him -- he took a village! After an amputation and treatment for heartworms, Duncan was ready for his furever family.

Duncan`s humans wrote, "Duncan has never shown anything less than pure happiness to be around others and just being happy in general. We first learned of Duncan after seeing a video of his happy face bounding around the run at the rescue, and knew he was special right away."

Duncan is a three-legged poster Pyr for #LiveYourBestLife.

Time to meet two more calendar contestants!

True love exists.

Seriously, it does.

Not just in kid`s movies and fairy tales.

We see it all the time at the rescue: some dogs instantly bond with one another.

Zack (left) and Kelly (right) are two of those dogs. Both #CGPRAlum, they came to us from different places and at different times. Zack already was happy in his #FureverHome when Kelly (Marian while in rescue) ended up in our care last year.

Kelly was one of those dogs that just didn`t click with other adopters for reasons we couldn`t explain. Sweet, spunky, and playful, she showed well, but everyone who came to meet her picked another dog.

And then she met Ariel, Susan, and Zack at the St. Patrick`s Day Pyrade, and she picked them. It was instant. Like birds circling around their heads and chirping and hearts throbbing just like in cartoons.

And so Ariel and Susan adopted another Pyr, and #ZackandKelly have been a pair ever since. As Ariel describes them, they are "completely smitten."

Their obvious joy and adoration for each other makes everyone around them smile. Who doesn`t love a #SnugglePuddle?! For Zack and Kelly, #LiveYourBestLife means sharing those warm fuzzies with their family and those of us who smile to see the precious pictures Ariel sends.

Ava, Dory and Odessa are social, healthy Pyr mix pups -- we suspect Great Labranees/Pyrador retriever, but we haven`t DNA tested them.

They are ready for their furever homes and can join families with social large male dogs or small dogs of either sex. Kids are ok for these girls as long as adults help small children and pups practice good manners with each other.

Mick is another contestant in this year`s calendar contest.

How is Mick living his best life? To start, Mick has a job. He works at the professional boarding side of CGPR president Shannon`s building that also houses the rescue kennels, and he`s been an important part of the team since adopted by @k_eban97 , who manages care for the customers and our rescue Pyrs.

Mick comes to work with Kim each day, and he has been an anchor of one of the play groups since he was a puppy new to rescue. Along with his littermates, Mick, now three years old, came from the same backyard breeder who was was responsible for the appalling condition that Sabrina, Jill, Kelly, and Angel were in. We suspect that Sabrina might be his mother.

Mick`s playful, sweet, and charming Pyrsonality have made him a favorite at Shannon`s boarding/grooming business and with the new dogs who meet him during rumpus time in the yard.

Thanks to Kim for all she does for the rescue Pyrs and to Mick for being a Pyrfect member of the team.

Geralt came to us with this name, and if you have read or watched the @witchernetflix series, well, it fits. He is strong and independent-minded, and he respects confident people who provide clear expectations for his behavior.

We love him, and he is thriving at the rescue with guidance and boundaries. He will do best with a guardian-experienced owner who knows and loves this breed and seeks a fearless companion.

No small children. Dog-savvy teens are ok, but Geralt isn`t a good fit for a house with lots of friends coming and going. He will need to be properly introduced to new people.

Oh, my goodness, Bernadette the Alpha Queen would have loved to show Geralt who was the BOSS of ALL THINGS! Alas, 14 year old Gideon is not male friendly and Bernadette is bossing the other dogs around across the Rainbow Bridge.

Wags of the tail to the first entrant in our 2024 calendar contest-- Aria!

Aria is a silver snout at ten years old. She's living the dream as a couch guardian now that she's retired from being a blood donor for other dogs at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital, which she did for eight years.

Over the years, we've sent several of our rescue Pyrs to State for specialized care, and many of our alum have seen their specialists as well. What a gift Aria has given to other dogs in crisis and the humans who love them--life!

Aria is a Pyrfect representative of the calendar's theme this year: #LiveYourBestLife!
