Adoption Policies Overview
The majority of our Pyrs require solid and securely fenced yards to thrive. We occasionally make exceptions for experienced Pyr owners who understand the breed’s strong instinct to roam and commit to keeping the Pyr on-leash when outside. We do not place Pyrs in homes where chains, tie-outs, or underground fencing is used.
We require a positive reference from a veterinarian who can confirm the applicant’s history of providing routine care, particularly regular administration of heartworm prevention and vaccination. We may require additional references for special needs Pyrs or exotic breeds to help us assure a good fit. An experienced Pyr-owner and volunteer may do a home visit, particularly for first-time Pyr owners.
All approved applicants are invited to meet the Pyrs and an officer of the rescue by appointment at the kennels in Indian Trail, NC. Most families bring home their new family member that day. Those who don’t find their match are welcome to visit again. We will help those who appear unready for Pyr ownership find an appropriate rescue to match them with a dog.
Our non-refundable adoption donation is $300 for seniors over eight years old, $400 for adults, $500 for puppies, and $650 for bonded pairs. This includes full vaccination; veterinary care when needed; spay/neuter; heartworm testing and, if necessary, treatment; and professional grooming.

Beatrice, a young female, came to us from a shelter partner today.
As you can tell, Beatrice has not had proper care for a long time, if ever. She's very thin, and her coat is patchy. She's had a litter of pups at some point in the past.
Even though humans have let her down, Beatrice is as sweet as can be.
This girl's glow-up is going to be magnificent!
Thanks to Jennifer for giving Beatrice a lift to rescue.

To wrap up #FureverHomeFriday, we are happy to accounce that Shannon (the rescue's president) has decided to keep Quasimodo, the Pyr to the immediate left of her.
When Quasi came back to the rescue after his first placement didn't work out, Shannon began introducing him to her dogs to better assess and work on his behavior outside of the kennel setting.
It turns out, he is the Pyrfect match for her pack, and so Quasimodo will stay at the farm furever!

Meadow and Carmela are a darling bonded pair who are as sweet as they are cute.
Meadow (left) is a Pyr mix, and we think she's Carmela's daughter. They are young adults, perhaps two and three years old respectively.
These girls are petite "pocket" Pyrs -- two adorable Pyrs for the size of one!
We are placing these girls together. They can go to a home with a large male dog, small dogs of either sex, and children.
They have been treated for heartworms, are recovering, and can leave us in a few weeks.

Athena and Typhon, a bonded pair, are the first of a handful of competent LGDs we are taking in. These two are social dogs whose owner could no longer care for them, and we hope to get them back into a Pyrfect home soon. Stay tuned for more info!

Can we share one of our dreams with you?
Yup, bonded pairs *are* harder to place. Sisters Andi and Joy came in together and are inseparable. While in rescue, the girls have bonded with Odin. So now we have a *group of three* that we would love to place together.
We are still willing to place Andi and Joy in one home and Odin in another, but, adopter looking for three fabulous young Pyrs, if you are out there, fill out that application to schedule a meet-and-greet at carolinapyrrescue.com!

We have Carmela and Meadow here at the rescue already...and now we have Tony! And, yes, he IS that handsome.
This boy came to us from a shelter partner, and we estimate him to be about three years old.
He is a sweet, mellow boy. Stay tuned for more information about him as we get to know him!

Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue is based out of our president’s grooming and boarding facility in Indian Trail, NC, and trained and professional staff care for most of our Pyrs. We rely on a network of experienced foster families to care for Pyrs who are not immediately adoptable.
We need the following:
- Forever homes: The number one way to help us is to adopt a Pyr.
- Donate any of the following items: We sometimes need clean towels, new or gently-used crates, Diamond Natural Lamb and Rice blend kibble, Lysol Clean and Fresh Multipurpose cleaner (the yellow bottle), Tide HE, and paper towels. Please email president@
carolinapyrrescue.com for current needs. Many of these needs are listed on our Amazon Wish List. - Organize an adoption event at a local pet store or other suitable site in your community: Email events@carolinapyrenews.
com - Donate: CGPR is a 501(c)3 non profit. Every dollar you donate goes directly to our efforts to save these magnificent dogs. Your donations are tax deductible, and you will receive a letter from CGPR for your records stating the details of your donation.
