Friends of the Pyrs, it is Wednesday...and time for a #WhyAreYouStillHereWednesday post!
Tucker is gorgeous and loves every human she meets.
Let's talk about her and other dogs. Are you socially awkward? Are your manners sometimes overwhelmed by your enthusiasm? Do you ever ...come across as A LOT when you meet new people? Do you try to be demure but act more like a bull in a china shop? That's Tucker when she is introduced to new dogs! Fellow quirky turkeys, let's find Tucker a furever home!
Tucker came to us as an owner surrender. Her elderly owners couldn't manage her puppy energy and isolated her from other dogs. As a result, she never learned how to greet on leash. She is friendly and wants to play but acts like an enthusiastic T-rex when she sees a new friend.
Tucker loves people. She loves walks. She has dog friends at the rescue that she loves rumpusing with off-leash. She has made progress in her "hellos" to other dogs here, and she can continue to do so in a furever home with experienced owners willing to work with her on walks. A social large male dog who likes to rumpus is a plus! She would like a fur friend!
This beautiful girl is ready! To meet Tucker or any of the wonderful Pyrs in our care, read about our placement process and fill out an application to schedule a meet-and-greet at carolinapyrrescue.com.

Everyone is exhausted, done, over it, and spent these days.
Let's all agree to be like #CGPRAlum Buddy and strive for this level of unbothered. What an inspiration in not giving a sh*t he is! 🤣😂🥰🤪
Thanks to Karen, his human, for sending us this delightful ...video!

Happy #TwoForTuesday!
Meet our latest bonded pair!
Jack and Shelby are incredibly sweet and loving. They were surrendered to us by their previous owner, who thought they were acquiring reliable LGDs. Well, Jack and Shelby are good guardians of goats and pigs....but not ...chickens!
Jack and Shelby can be adopted by an experienced LGD owner who can work with them -- again, no chickens! -- or as pets. But let's be safe and say no owners with pet birds either!
To learn more about this adorable duo or any of our bonded pairs, read about our placement process and fill out an application to schedule a meet-and-greet at carolinapyrrescue.com.
This past weekend, #CGPRAlum Beau walked with our friends at Safe Alliance to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Mecklenburg Co., NC.
Each year, we are asked to help several Pyrs whose owners reach out to us to get their dogs to a safe place so that they can get to ...safety, too.
Everyone--Pyrs and people--deserves to belong, be loved, and be safe! 💜

Happy #MixMonday, friends of the Pyrs!
We have some wonderful Pyr mixes in our care. Think all the sass but not necessarily all the floof!

Friends, can we talk about heartworms again?
Treating heartworm-positive dogs has become our single largest veterinary expense.
Rates of heartworm infection are climbing in the Carolinas.
Marshall, a loved owner surrender who came to us when his human faced a serious ...health challenge of their own, has tested positive for heartworms. He is the tenth HW+ dog in our care in 2026. Marshall was not neglected. He was an inside dog. His owner just declined to give him monthly preventative, and he had no protection when bit by an infected mosquito. That's all it took.
Not providing monthly heartworm preventative is the number one reason we reject applications to adopt from us.
People send us some spicy responses along the lines of "I'm such a good dog owner that I don't provide standard veterinary care and instead do [insert untested or disproven thing] here." Garlic. Raw onions. Tea tree oil. Neem oil. Herbs sold through a website with no testing to prove safety or effectiveness.
We aren't anti-natural or alternative veterinary medicine, and we use a variety of proven, safe treatments on the rescue Pyrs.
There's no proven alternative to standard veterinary medicine for preventing heartworm disease in dogs, and heartworm disease is common, fatal, and preventable. Responsible dog owners provide preventative, which can be administered as a monthly pill or an injection.
Please take care of your Pyr's heart!
Everyone is so crazy busy these days.
Take some advice from #CGPRAlum Molly: slow down and spend time with those you love. Time passes quickly!
