Adoption Policies Overview
The majority of our Pyrs require solid and securely fenced yards to thrive. We occasionally make exceptions for experienced Pyr owners who understand the breed’s strong instinct to roam and commit to keeping the Pyr on-leash when outside. We do not place Pyrs in homes where chains, tie-outs, or underground fencing is used.
We require a positive reference from a veterinarian who can confirm the applicant’s history of providing routine care, particularly regular administration of heartworm prevention and vaccination. We may require additional references for special needs Pyrs or exotic breeds to help us assure a good fit. An experienced Pyr-owner and volunteer may do a home visit, particularly for first-time Pyr owners.
All approved applicants are invited to meet the Pyrs and an officer of the rescue by appointment at the kennels in Indian Trail, NC. Most families bring home their new family member that day. Those who don’t find their match are welcome to visit again. We will help those who appear unready for Pyr ownership find an appropriate rescue to match them with a dog.
Our non-refundable adoption donation is $300 for seniors over eight years old, $400 for adults, $500 for puppies, and $650 for bonded pairs. This includes full vaccination; veterinary care when needed; spay/neuter; heartworm testing and, if necessary, treatment; and professional grooming.

We are looking for a long-term foster home in the Marshville to Charlotte area for Ava.
This sweet girl came to us in rough shape. She needs a quiet home with mellow, older dogs and gentle humans who will take her on short walks to work on her mobility. Vet care and medication will be covered by the rescue. We want her to stay close to the rescue in Marshville for now so that Shannon and our veterinarian can check in with her.

Our sweet Avery had the adventure of her life this weekend! She got a ride to Maine!
Our friends at Western Maine Great Pyrenees Rescue have a wonderful home lined up for her. We love our rescue partners and are grateful for folks who help us help Pyrs in the Carolinas get the second chances they deserve!Avery has arrived in Maine! Finally ! This girl has come from North Carolina thru our partnership with Carolina Pyr Rescue. 2 of this summer's dogs had to stay back in MS for heartworm treatment and time afterwards, and a couple other prospects fell thru for various reasons. So I put in a request, and Avery was readied for the trip north. When she is done with quarantine she has a family headed over to meet her! Thank you Carolina Pyr Rescue for all that you go for pyrs in the Carolinas.

Just in time for another summer heat wave...meet our chilly pups!
These little floofs came to us from a shelter partner, and we estimate them to be about 10 weeks old. Flurry is a female, and Yukon, Glacier, and Frost are males.
The pups are meeting approved adopters now and will be ready to leave the rescue next month. Preference given to adopters who have experience with adult Pyrs.

It is #TwoforTuesday, friends of the Pyrs!
No one has come to adopt Charlie and Katherine yet, and we can't figure out why?! How beautiful are they?!
These bonded siblings are as sweet as can be. They are best as the only large dogs in their adoptive home, but they will be great matches for a family with some kiddos and perhaps even small dogs.

We learned that one of our #sleepysunday regulars crossed the Rainbow Bridge this past week. #CGPRAlum Sweet Pea was adopted from us a decade ago. Since then, we have shared many pictures of her on our social media. She was a Pyrfessional snoozler and wonderful representative of the amazing hugs this breed gives. This is one of our favorite pictures.
We know that the #CGPRAlum greeting her at the Pyrnic on the other side of the Bridge will show her the ropes. Rest well, sweet girl.

Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue is based out of our president’s grooming and boarding facility in Indian Trail, NC, and trained and professional staff care for most of our Pyrs. We rely on a network of experienced foster families to care for Pyrs who are not immediately adoptable.
We need the following:
- Forever homes: The number one way to help us is to adopt a Pyr.
- Donate any of the following items: We sometimes need clean towels, new or gently-used crates, Diamond Natural Lamb and Rice blend kibble, Lysol Clean and Fresh Multipurpose cleaner (the yellow bottle), Tide HE, and paper towels. Please email president@
