Adoption Policies Overview
The majority of our Pyrs require solid and securely fenced yards to thrive. We occasionally make exceptions for experienced Pyr owners who understand the breed’s strong instinct to roam and commit to keeping the Pyr on-leash when outside. We do not place Pyrs in homes where chains, tie-outs, or underground fencing is used.
We require a positive reference from a veterinarian who can confirm the applicant’s history of providing routine care, particularly regular administration of heartworm prevention and vaccination. We may require additional references for special needs Pyrs or exotic breeds to help us assure a good fit. An experienced Pyr-owner and volunteer may do a home visit, particularly for first-time Pyr owners.
All approved applicants are invited to meet the Pyrs and an officer of the rescue by appointment at the kennels in Indian Trail, NC. Most families bring home their new family member that day. Those who don’t find their match are welcome to visit again. We will help those who appear unready for Pyr ownership find an appropriate rescue to match them with a dog.
Our non-refundable adoption donation is $300 for seniors over eight years old, $400 for adults, $500 for puppies, and $650 for bonded pairs. This includes full vaccination; veterinary care when needed; spay/neuter; heartworm testing and, if necessary, treatment; and professional grooming.

We want to brag about Angelica on this #MakeoverMonday. Do you remember when she came to us back in May?
This juvenile female had been dumped, and Good Samaritans tried to catch her for weeks. Time and again, she managed to escape -- despite limping on three legs!
When finally trapped, Angelica's rescuers were relieved to learn that her leg hadn't been tied. Her paw was caught in her collar, and it was loose enough such that she did not suffer from limb strangulation. Angelica was thin, and her paw was sore, but she has fully recovered.
This beautiful girl is now a stunning, happy, healthy Pyr. She is a bossy bitch -- the kind that fans of this breed love! Experienced Pyr or guardian breed owners preferred. An appreciation for sass required!

Happy #MixMonday from our four young male Pyr mixes! Each of these boys has been waiting patiently for his #FureverHome! Is it yours?!
These aren't a bonded frat! Nope! Each boy is looking for a separate home. Each would enjoy sharing a home with a large, social female dog their size, but they could be only dogs, too.
These long-time residents at the rescue often get overlooked...because they aren't the fluffiest, and, let's be real: we are fluffy dealers! They are wonderful dogs, however, and we believe their Pyrfect match is out there!

We are so happy to share that Ava has a loving foster home lined up. She has another vet visit this week, but then she will join a wonderful family to continue to get stronger.
This sweet girl came to us suffering from severe neglect, including heartworm disease. She was too thin and weak to begin the normal protocol when she arrived in rescue, but she's gaining weight, strength, and mobility.
We can't change what happened to Ava in the past, but she will have her second chance thanks to your donations and these kind foster Pyrents!

Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue is based out of our president’s grooming and boarding facility in Indian Trail, NC, and trained and professional staff care for most of our Pyrs. We rely on a network of experienced foster families to care for Pyrs who are not immediately adoptable.
We need the following:
- Forever homes: The number one way to help us is to adopt a Pyr.
- Donate any of the following items: We sometimes need clean towels, new or gently-used crates, Diamond Natural Lamb and Rice blend kibble, Lysol Clean and Fresh Multipurpose cleaner (the yellow bottle), Tide HE, and paper towels. Please email president@
carolinapyrrescue.com for current needs. Many of these needs are listed on our Amazon Wish List. - Organize an adoption event at a local pet store or other suitable site in your community: Email events@carolinapyrenews.
com - Donate: CGPR is a 501(c)3 non profit. Every dollar you donate goes directly to our efforts to save these magnificent dogs. Your donations are tax deductible, and you will receive a letter from CGPR for your records stating the details of your donation.
